Ardor of Autumn

Wind rolls off the river, chills the bones.
My cheeks are rosy from Chicago's cold.
Now wrapped in warmth inside with tea and scones,
October has my body feeling old.
Yet, I love the views autumn colors bring
The rain that falls upon my window pane,
How nature's timing changes everything,
How death of cold rejuvenates again.
The beauty of this season inspires
Poetry to flow from my hand to pen,
As romantic thoughts of my desires,
Memories of our tender love back when

Our souls first encountered a love so deep,
As I recall those times they make me weep.

Another gorgeous sonnet from your fertile pen, Connie. The threads of nature and romance weave around each other so effortlessly. So appropriate that I read this in October. Poetic gold.

Thank you very much John. Though this is not a true sonnet, more of a couplet, but it got me started learning how to write a proper sonnet. Have a great weekend. Blessings xxoo

Lovely sonnet and tribute to Autumn with colors, cold, and old memories. Time to reflect and look inward. Time to cozy in. I see the work you put into this and the carful rhyme and description. Such nice work. Don’t we find sonates fun?

Beautiful poem Connie. Getting snow today and it came way to early this year. Wish we were back to fall but did not have much of a fall season. Crops are still on the fields under the snow. love phyl

G'day Connie … it's these special times in our lives that ease the cold and bitterness as we recall the romance at that time - a fine sonnet indeed Connie - Lindsay

I agree with you Connie - Autumn is is colourful and inspiring - it actually is my favourite season, but our Autumns in South Africa are really mild. Love your poem my friend - Hugs and blessings. Jennifer.

When I was young, I loved cold weather. Wonder how it would feel now. Of course, some of us live in areas where we can't view the fall colors. This magical time of transition is most enjoyed by those who live in cooler climates. We just need to be at peace with nature's changes. Excellent entry for the contest, Hon. Best wishes for success! Hugs, carolyn

Funny how the seasons awake old memories both good and sad. And yes as you get older you do feel the chilling winds. Tom
