April Fool
The ground
now saturated from several days
of cold unyielding rain
begins to dry
beneath the warming rays
of a bright white and distant sun.
Released from its hiding place
along with creatures of the wood and nature's
squirrels, chipmunks and songbirds rise
greeting the resurgence of spring's
rebirth and arrival
in hope of bidding goodbye, farewell to wintery chill.
Northeast weather teases
always unpredictable
making each of us and April's fool
ready to plant, burying nuts and acorns
renewing life's pleasures too early
only too watch it wither, wilt and retreat.
The ides of March do pass
and eventually succumb
to latent hopes and promises
springtide on the run
to be resurrected
by dreams and faith
for every April Fool.
