Another Reason I Didn'T Join the Circus

It's always bothered me That age 5 My class went to the circus And everyone was laughing At the clowns And I was aware of myself In almost an out of body Experience Not finding them funny The slapstick has to be very good To move me They just hadn't put the work Into the set up It was falling down, custard pie It's ok it's not water in the bucket I love the music though Doot-doot-doodle-oodle oot doot do do The soundtrack to my Existentialism

Like any comedy with me, I don't just laugh cause its a comedy, it has to be mighty good. Loved your story. I remember not liking clowns as a child. Best wishes.

Thanks Wen, bizarrely I loved Timmy Mallett who was probably extremely slapstick really - so many people didn't like him (probably just UK telly) but I thought he was wonderful haha

Love your musing. My first circus experiences were at the IBM country club at Christmas time followed up by picking out a present under my age group. When I joined the Navy, I went to the circus with who would become my husband. It was Barnum and Bailey’s. So much fun. I had on clogs…he had on a light jacket and when we left we had had a substantial snow storm. A memory for sure!

Wow so many distinct sensory images - feels magical! There is a chance my first circus was just not very good and I was with people easily pleased haha. I remember thinking my first cinema visit was the most magical thing in the world, with the enormous red velvet curtains, high ceilings and red velvet seats.

Must admit, never quite got clowns. If you murder someone wearing a size 20 shoe, you're bound to get caught.
