Another Place, Another Time

A small child sat and watched the rain nose pressed hard 'gainst window pane mind mulling, musing, pondering wistful, wishing, wandering filled with fantasies, far off places cities, forests, wide-open spaces Formative years yearning reading, imagining, learning prospective possibilities alluring locations overseas- But grown-up responsibilities forced a shifting of priorities and nose stayed pressed against the glass settled and still, as life went past An old man sat and watched the rain nose pressed hard 'gainst window pane dreaming about what 'might have been' wishes blow by in Winter's wind like scuttling leaves, used up and dry silent sorrow in pensive sighs

Rhona, to me, this tells the sorry tale of a person who did not take a risk or two, did not do what he had always wanted to do, who had lived vicariously through other people's lives. A favorite for me, as I have met people with many regrets who did not take a chance, choosing instead to watch others live.

Yes, you got my meaning exactly! I may not have done everything I once set out to do, but I stuck my neck out, traveled a bit, and did SOME of it! I see so many people who live their whole life never doing ANY of the things they dream of, and that is terribly sad. This was meant as a reminder not to sit and watch as life passes us by!

So reflective of how people and their perceptions change with time, love the touch of wistfulness-
