Another Place, Another Time
A small child sat and watched the rain
nose pressed hard 'gainst window pane
mind mulling, musing, pondering
wistful, wishing, wandering
filled with fantasies, far off places
cities, forests, wide-open spaces
Formative years yearning
reading, imagining, learning
prospective possibilities
alluring locations overseas-
But grown-up responsibilities
forced a shifting of priorities
and nose stayed pressed against the glass
settled and still, as life went past
An old man sat and watched the rain
nose pressed hard 'gainst window pane
dreaming about what 'might have been'
wishes blow by in Winter's wind
like scuttling leaves, used up and dry
silent sorrow in pensive sighs
