Another Mind
It happened again
I couldn’t help myself
The emotion was intoxicating
As they screamed for help
They begged for mercy
And asked for a quick death
But that robs me of the pleasure
Of sustaining their last breath
Carefully
Surgically
I strip them of hope
And offer a brief window
Gradually narrowing the scope
Of the time they have
Or so they may think
To escape this living hell
All while the deeper they sink
Into what I view as a game
Of simple cat and mouse
And further lighting my face
As it’s played in their house
For weeks on end
I stalk my prey
Learn their habits
And activities day to day
The night before I win
The game I do love to play
I find myself in their living room
Rearranging furniture to display
How insignificant it is
That we have things a certain way
And how easily all that can be changed
By a stranger the very next day
