Angels Danced

He was addicted to drugs and drink and all the things that would lead him to depression and despair. I reached out to him with what I hoped was love, but found out soon that it would never be enough. His heart was so huge he gave of himself much more than I ever imagined I could. He listened and cared and never knew a stranger. He was living on a prayer with only hope and honesty. I tried to change him even though he was good. I didn’t want him to die even though I knew that he would. I thought of those words when they lowered the casket with him in it. Angels danced the day you were born, and they wept when they welcomed you home. Addiction consumes No one can outlive it’s hold Death arrives slowly

Yes. So many have... it's so sad. God can work miracles in lives given the opportunity. I pray for all addicts. Thanks for your kind words.

Regina, your poignant words brought back sad memories of a soul I lost too soon who was addicted to alcohol and took him from us. You have written this tribute so beautifully. I am sorry for your loss. Congratulations on your wonderful deserving win! xxoo

Thank you for your kind words. Addiction runs in my family and I am blessed to have escaped it for the most part (although even shopping can be an addiction I think), but I really appreciate your reading and commenting. God bless you always and I hope to see more from you.

I cried reading this. My sister was an addict and took her life in 2010 by overdose. It still breaks my heart thinking of her struggles. Also, I am a recovering addict. Sober over 10 years now. Living a healthy and happy life. a life my sister didn't get the chance to live. Great poem...thank you for your participation and congratulations on your placement. :)-luloo

Thank you for the opportunity to write something fresh about someone I'd written about before. He was an amazing man and I loved him dearly. I'm sorry to hear about your sister. Addiction is so deadly - only the miracles are saved from it. God bless you and thank you.

Thank you, James. I loved the man I wrote this about for sure. He was a gentle giant.
