Notes About The Poem

And So It Begins

And so it begins ... The sad sad story of why I’m lying in a hospital bed with my right leg in traction Valentine’s Day arrives My girlfriend moans about her weight So I didn’t buy any candy It was just a small oversight! In the evening I planned to propose - Being environmentally friendly I gave her a plastic rose Big mistake! When I got down on one knee I presented her with a ‘placeholder’ ring from the dime store this was a HUGE error of judgement ... With piercing stiletto heels she kicked my knee from under me I’d no chance to explain I wanted US both to choose her real diamond engagement ring! And so it begins ... This is just great, Jan! So, so funny! Congrats on your win. As we used to say: Rah, rah, ree; kick 'em in the knee. Rah, rah, rass; kick 'em in the other knee. (How about that?!) Best wishes, Gershon

hahaha. That last part reminds me of Mr. Bean's Xmas episode where is girlfriend gets huffy for the picture he gives her of a ring! Well, Jan, as usual, i got none of the fun things in that i wanted to do today, but I caught up on organizing things in my house, so I guess that is something and now i am caught up here. Email me sometime!!

I am laughing my sore little cold-filled head off now, Jan. This was so funny and great for Line's prompt! I expect to see this one in the winner's circle.

Thanks Ilene - I read an article about placeholder rings which are given as a token prior to getting an official engagement ring and this got the grey cells going into overdrive lol:-) hugs Jan xx
