And Fear Is a Liar
Don’t look up
there is danger in eye contact
a challenge
to see you, accept you
…as an equal.
Don’t speak up
there is confrontation
in your voice
…regardless of its tenor.
Don’t stand too tall
there is pride
in the presence
…of your stature.
These are the lies
you were told
now become
…a fear that controls.
and fear is a liar.
