Notes About The Poem

An Historic Queen

Every woman is someone’s queen, without women what would the world have been.
Quote - Poets own
An Historic Queen
If I had been made a Queen of England Back then in those historic days of yore I’d have worn a crown, a ring on my hand And silver and gold would be clothes I wore. I’d have ladies in waiting - in the wings Ladies who would tend to my every need Because I’d wed one of those ancient kings A king to whom I'd been proudly decreed. There may have been others he had bedded Maybe he'd have fallen for someone else I could've been cruelly beheaded Or left in a tower all by myself. Then no one would ever need to curtsy Yet, if we’d been blessed with a desired son Then that would have made me truly worthy In the eyes of the King and everyone. *+*+*

A beautiful poem that speaks the truth! If you haven't seen it, I suggest "The Spanish Princess (I think) on Netflix. About the first wife of Henry VIII. Congrats on your big win!

Belle, congratulations on your win! I couldn't help but think of the musical Six reading your poem that has such a wonderful, musical flow. Isn't it interesting that it is the man who determines the sex of a baby yet in those times it was the woman who was blamed for not producing a male heir to the throne. Sending you many blessings and continued prayers!

Six is a British musical. I believe it is currently on Broadway. And, I think it won a Tony award but don't quote me on that account. The costumes and dancing are really something! Blessings.

Sam, till now I hadn’t heard of the musical Six, would love to see the show as I enjoy the theatre and musicals. I agree it’s wrong to blame women for not producing a son when no one can make the choice. Thank you for the comments they’re sincerely appreciated… Belle

Sounds a little like her husband could have been King Henry V111. But i agree with you would dress in the finest and be assisted by the finest domestic help, until I was maybe beheaded by the KING..... if the queen did not give him an heir. Your last verse could have been Jane Seymour as she produced an heir - the King loved her that, but she died at childbirth, Fantastic poem my friend. Hugs and blessings, Jennifer.

King Henry VIII was in mind when I wrote this poem, the picture was the inspiration for the write. It was sad about Jane Seymour dying in childbirth. Thank you Jennifer, blessings and hugs, Belle

Henry was definitely bad news. Thank you Tom, we had five days away at Weston-Super-Mare and both of us caught an horrendous summer cold, we’re still recovering… Belle
