An Early Start

I love to get an early start When all the world’s in bed, So roads where traffic plagues me Will have empty lanes instead. I’ll get to stores just opening And saunter through the aisles. The checkout folk, not grumpy yet, Will ring me up with smiles. My chores complete, I’ll have the day Where hours still await. I’d better wrap this poem before My early start is late!

Hello Ilene... each morning on the radio I hear a traffic report, and at 6.30.am, east of Melbourne the roads are clogged. I hope you don't have to put up with a situation like this Ilene. Regards - Lindsay

Very nice Ilene. Great rhyming pattern and a hook at the end. Love that. My kind of poetry.

What a delightful poem to start my day! It was fresh and perky, like that first cup of coffee. ....Darlene

Although I would say that I am an "early starter" (comparatively speaking), unfortunately I tend to spend too much time waiting for others to "catch up" or even to "get up" to accompany me on my errands. Following your example and adopting a more independent methodology would probably serve me better by freeing much of my time for other, more enjoyable pursuits. Thank you for this lesson and for the delightful way you have presented it to us!
