Sam, yours is the first haiku to place in the 2022 Poetry Marathon! In a haiku series, I like reading just the last lines too, which adds a slightly different perspective: "autumn starts to breathe... sighs of silver frost... summer hears scarlet... fall kisses summer... smile of summer fades." Nicely done, Sam! Congratulations on your win on Mile 17 of my 2022 Poetry Marathon Contest. Keep your running shoes on, because Mile 18 has already started.

Mark, thank you! I am deeply grateful for your placement of this poem among so many outstanding poems and your note of congratulations. What an honor to have the first haiku place in the marathon - truly a humbling experience. I love your idea of lifting out the last lines to create a new poem. But, then, again, I am not surprised at your innovative view! Have started a new poem based on your idea. Thank you!! Sending you all the blessings of the season. Your marathon has been a wonderful opportunity to read so many wonderful poems.

A quintet of autumnal vignettes from one of my fave haikuists... you depict Fall in all her glory with these snapshots of color and action in your genuinely original viewpoint and delightful word choices. Love the parasols of leaves twirling in lacy pirouettes, along with the harlequin tree boughs heralding platinum twilight! So picturesque, I want to go grab a mug of hot cider and start searching for a perfect pumpkin! Congrats on your win, dear Sam. As for baseball, there's always next year! Warmly ~ R&Rbro

Greetings dear friend! Much gratitude coming your way for your beautiful feedback and message that so inspires me. I love haiku for its opportunities to express nature with an innovative pen and the seasons in vivid imagery and personification with the surprise twists in the third line. Writing this poem was like sitting on the porch, bundled in a warm blanket with hot cider watching the leaves fall. Thanks for joining me on the porch. The cider is always on in the fall! Sending you the grace of falling leaves and the peace of the season R&R bro!

I love the title, a perfect introduction for a vivid bouquet of haiku portraying the summer to autumn transition in all its rich splendor. I especially adore; "ruffle summer petticoats" and "sighs of silver frost" and "trees wear plaid bloomers" and "smile of summer fades" - such vibrant visions are created with your great flair and grand artistry. My Dearest Rhyme Time Friend, what a joy it is to share this time of year with you as summer welcomes the slow birthing autumn that invites us into the awe of creation as autumn leaves a farewell kiss on summer's golden cheek! This time of year is so rich in images. It almost paints itself in words. I feel so blessed to be able to share my wonder with you, sweet poetry sis! Your lovely message - like a summer-autumn bouquet - the best of both seasons! Your message is a gift that I treasure. Hi Andrea! Thank you so much! I am enjoying haiku. It is so full of opportunities to develop imagery and that I love! So glad you enjoyed my trip from summer into autumn! And, yes, you did see the first haiku before. I added an additional four stanzas. You are definitely not seeing things - great memory! Here's to the beauty of summer and the glory of fall.

The change from summer to autumn is so poetically and meticulously depicted in a series of wonderful haikus ! I cannot say which is better.... but my appreciation goes out so much for the second one-----parasols of leaves/ twirl in lacy pirouettes ~ sighs of silver frost. Your word pictures truly stand out, dear Sam

Greetings Valsa! I am deeply appreciative of your lovely message. Thank you so much! I think imagery is one of the hallmarks of haiku. For me, the change of the seasons is a slow dance of subtle movement. If we are aware of the little changes each day we get drawn into this magical dance. I love to celebrate the essence of each month by changing the decorations in our house to match the personality of the month. Thank you for taking a spin around the dance floor with me and autumn! Sending you many blessings dear friend!
