Alone Is a Being
Alone is a Being
Alone is a palpable being;
A being that will sit by a cordless phone,
And wait for just a robo call
To break the silence, and
Alone will go to the computer,
Look up that number, killing time,
Only to find a scammer,
Alone resumes his easy chair, and
Alone will flip through the closet,
“I’ll clean that out someday,”
Alone reads a book, writes some verse,
Hums an old song on his way.
Alone stares at the evening birds,
Daydreams in front of a blaring TV
No interest in the picture,
Finds a rerun, a cookie, Snickers, and
Alone tries to focus on a pick me up,
A memory, new mown grass,
“This, too, shall pass,” and then
Wanders through the needy house; tho
Alone is never lonely.
