All Things Broken and Silent
after “All Things Bright and Beautiful,” by Cecil Frances Alexander
All things broken and silent,
all shadows and the scar,
the wind that finds no resting,
the wish upon a star.
The wings that never opened,
the prayer that was not heard,
the stone beneath the lilies,
the silence after word—
These too were made and counted,
though not in verses sung;
their names are kept in stillness,
their psalms are left unsprung.
