All Dead

When you stop to think about it… I’m talking old movies with All these old familiar faces How names incredibly pop into your head Bit players In movies 70 and more years old Edgar Buchanan Leon Errol Binnie Barnes And strangely lots of names Some of the more famous actors Names escape memory When you stop to think about it….. How miraculous They live All dead but quite alive

remembering this nostalgic poem of yours. I know how you must feel that you don't fit in the world with all the new actors' names. I am starting to feel that way hearing my students say they never heard of folks like Dustin Hoffman, simon and Garfunkel and many many others.

I guess I am not good with names. Because often NONE of their names pop into my mind, and certainly not the ones before the 60's hahaha. This is very nice, I understand exactly its meaning and on the dreams, so far I have found two or three others here that dream almost that same crappy dream! Luv, andrea

WOW! I'm 60 years older than you, but I've never pinpointed the time of dying. Your poem is quite beautiful. Leon Errol was the greatest drunk ever. Buchanan was always rubbing his face in confusion. Good to hear from you. BIG LOVE, daver

Isn't that amazing? I find myself doing the same thing. I'll look at an old movie and recognize all these actors and I'll say to myself,..."That's right, he's (or she) gone. He (or she) passed away about three years ago." "I forgot that this actor passed on. But as you say, they're dead, but live on forever on film. Great free verse! Milt

I know those names....such a fan of old movies am I. Edgar Buchanan, that gravel voice of his.. And funny, but one of the first (not my best) poems I submitted on P.S. was this same theme...(called "Black and White". ) It occurred to me as well, what a miracle that they live on ...dead but alive. We are of the same mind dear Daver...and sometimes it makes me sad to watch those faces on tv now and see how many are gone. Today's stars, or bit players...well it's just not the same, is it??

Daver, I have some old Spencer Tracy, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart and Elizabeth Taylor movies. Though Taylor still lives, her career is over now. But what a legacy each of these actors has given us! Their names and their contributions will certainly remain "quite alive." Love you, Carolyn
