Listen to poem:
Back when I was a teenager I was probably normal Tempestuous Alone and misunderstood When I picked up a pen And let it all out No holds barred And the release felt good That’s when I discovered poetry I could turn the worst feelings into Something tangible Something valuable Sometimes even beautiful I simply got addicted It was very much like Finding solace in a glass of wine I found my high in converting Losses into wins In the long run Poetry proved to be My truest and most faithful friend To me poems were and are still Ever so similar to Sacred waterlilies born of mud AP: 1st place 2022, Honorable Mention 2022, Honorable Mention 2022 Submitted on September 2, 2017 for contest WHAT INSPIRES YOU TO WRITE POETRY sponsored by JULIE LEIGH RODEHEAVER - RANKED 5TH

Awesome to see your history with poetry. To think all I ever did was write short stories in high school. Maybe a few little love poems here and there. I had no idea what I would come to be until well into my 40's. It's great that you were born to do this,Line.

Thank you so much for your lovely visit, Andrea. I di grow up with poetry. I remember now have a couple of friends and we would show each other our poetry. It was very motivating.

I appreciate this poem. The rhyme in the first stanza, and the similes of wine and lilies are wonderful.
