Acquaintance and Neighbourhood

Amidst all the hubbub I stand Responding to a miriad of 'How are you' enquiries Where no-one stops to hear the answer Questioning the purpose of asking I am more likely to be saved or soothed On a mountain side Than on my street where I live Expressions of affection Limited to taking in my parcel Interactions focussed on the parking And telegraph pole installation Despite intentions to do more Lives are too busy to take time Connections aren't made Days drift by Lives are lived Spaces vacated occupied anew And the cycle continues Acquaintance And Neighborhood Poetry Contest 10th February 2023 Sponsored by: Sotto Poet
