Acorns

Acorns line the yard,
proud stoic soldiers
protecting homeland,
women, and children.

Burnt-brown caps askew
on beige chilly heads
awaiting the rush
of Autumn’s medley.

Aural leaves riffle,
padding the rough path
with scarlet flutters
of fallen heroes.

Eyes now unseeing
feeding from the loam
in hopes Spring will root
life from sacrifice.

A lovely poem, Linda. I especially love the last lines, "...in hopes Spring will root life from sacrifice."

Hey Joe. I appreciate you. I started out with a Nature theme, then given our Veterans Day (Nov 11), thought the two allegorical. Thanks for noticing! :)

Nice metaphors and fall imagery. I used to notice things like acorns, and the various other types of seedpods, and leaves on the ground from trees a lot more as a kid. This makes me think of that.

Hi my friend. Glad to bring some memories. We used many natural items for decoration when I was a kid. Lots of fun to identify, craft, and enjoy all parts of Nature. :)

I thought this was a more cheerful poem about Autumn. To me, I feel melancholiness a lot. A nice change-
