Above the Clouds
Love lifted me into the clouds so high
I could not see the world beneath my feet.
We sailed away into a sunset sky.
I felt so sure my life was then complete!
We soared through galaxies, collecting dust
from shining stars that made our faces glow.
Life felt so sweet; the earth beneath us must
have been illusion. . . . but what did I know?
Reality, I learned, was not above
those fluffs of clouds, for passion dies so soon,
you’re pulled down to the ground. And what of love?
It’s just a glimmer up there on the moon.
Yet mortals can’t stop wishing for that flight
above the clouds into the star-filled night.
