A Year Dwindling Down

Apple cheeked autumn eyes bashful skies, as

Yellow frocked summer says her goodbyes to fragrant
Earth's seeded spring, to wild bouquets
Arranged by careless care, for the
Roses and daffodils to compare

Dandelion sprinkles of buoyant cheer on
Windswept wishes from children's magic, landing
In water lilies and long looping lanes, woven in
Nests of chirping, fragile hope
Delicate shadows of feather and wing
Lingering through flickering whiplash steam where
Ice caves lost to reckless flame
Northern flocks under southern stars to map
Greener seasons slipped through graying rain

Drowsy flutters the pale sun's
Oscillating gusts of sleeted night as
Wan, wanting branches undone by
November's surrender to darkling winter.

Your words are so beautiful, especially "apple cheeked October" and "yellow frocked summer"--perfect descriptions. I also love the line "greener seasons slipped though greying rain." lovely!

Hi Michelle, I'm really enjoying many of your poems. I like this one and your poem about Who You Would Bring Back, with the lines "To her I would give my own energy To be, again, the woman in my memory..." Very nice use of language. Very cute. Very clever. Interesting indeed. Earl

Michelle, 'Ice caves lost to reckless flame Northern flocks under southern stars to map Greener seasons slipped through graying rain' I don't have to tell, but I will.., just in case. Your poem is so creative and wonderful. Stands solid even without forming an Acrostic. -Richard

Michelle, your artistic pen harvests an abundance of beauty in this exquisite acrostic poem. A metaphorical gem of amazing word play, alliteration/assonance, dashes of internal rhymes and stunning imagery captured my swooning soul and brought my willing joy to the center of this magnificent piece. I adore it all! Congratulations on your wonderful win in Edward's contest and a big congratulations for hitting #1 on the Best New Poems list - worthy and well-deserved! A fav! Now, I must go and read it for the 3th time :) Warmest wishes, dear poetess.. ~Susan

What an amazing acrostic this is Michelle, so vivid and vibrant in it's phrasing, and the flow of thought from line to line made ot seem as it wasn't an acrostic at all. Nice to see it with all the accolades, well deserved!

"Bashful skies, as summer says her goodbyes" I know, I can't believe Autumn is here already. I do love this time of year. Vibrant colors and decorations. :) "A Year Dwindling Down" only to caress a New Year. My heart smiles knowing this. Congratulations Michelle, on Poem of the Day. :) Brandy
