A Woodland Walk
The woodland forest is a canopy of green
Stately hickory and sycamores welcome
Harbingers of the summer soon to appear
Young ground squirrels, newly-born deer
As I stroll old paths I remember so fondly
Over the hill and down through yon glen
Laden with memories of youth exploring
Natural wonders in their pristine glory
The springtime is best for a walk like this
When the blue sky sifts through the trees
Creating dust shadows through the branches
Sometimes dewy mists hover overhead
Giving the tall long-needle pines a crown
Sweet smell of honeysuckles lingering
I remember them from those days of yore
And vow a return to reminisce another time
