A Woodland Walk

The woodland forest is a canopy of green Stately hickory and sycamores welcome Harbingers of the summer soon to appear Young ground squirrels, newly-born deer As I stroll old paths I remember so fondly Over the hill and down through yon glen Laden with memories of youth exploring Natural wonders in their pristine glory The springtime is best for a walk like this When the blue sky sifts through the trees Creating dust shadows through the branches Sometimes dewy mists hover overhead Giving the tall long-needle pines a crown Sweet smell of honeysuckles lingering I remember them from those days of yore And vow a return to reminisce another time

Such marvelous imagery, it makes me want to take a walk in the woods. Wait! The last time I did I had 13 wood ticks eating my back.

Oh my goodness, don't wade in the woods...walk the well-worn paths and check yourself out along the way. Ticks are not only troublesome, but deer ticks can cause a lot of anguish.

Gosh, I haven;t taken a walk in the woods in ages, much less my local park. Your delightful poem was the next best thing. Many of my long narratives include descriptions of nature, a love I've had since my boyhood. An enjoyable read. Thanks for posting it, / Maurice

Your poem takes my mind to the woods and a fine springtime walk. The very essence of great poetry, language that takes our minds places. Loved it.

An enchanting piece Milton! Wonderful. I was transported deep within the forest, motes of dust floating amid sunbeams, made life meaningful again. Thanks...ab
