Constance's Thirteen Beautiful Lines Contest :: April 22, 2025

It's hard to lose someone who was never really yours to love. ~ by poet Flowing through channels in my mind, race reveries of my cherished thoughts. Memories of us that crossed the bridge over a river's current of forlorn hearts. Illumined by the glow of a silvery moon or morning's kindled by an amber sun, we often met in a private rendezvous where we embraced in a web, love spun. It served us as a gateway to happiness. Each time you walked through the mist I welcomed you with impatient arms, always longing to be passionately kissed. Bridge crumbled and you are sorely missed.

Oh, what a horrible experience life would be. Were it not for love in the fondest of memory— A.S.

Lin, this is a very interesting look at a human condition that affects many of us. I'm thinking how we might go through life with attractions and fantasies of all kinds. If I had this to do over again, I would keep those a more restrained until I got to know people much better so that I wouldn't have embarrassed my younger self. I still think about these things as intrusive thoughts at times though at least they are not as obsessive as they once were. This is very hard as you say.

Your idea is a good one, certainly a safer way of protecting a heart, but that organ has too much say so, I'm afraid. lol It's as intrusive as a gut punch when thinking of turning away from love. Tis very hard, Duke. Thank you.

Dear Linnersz, Ah that hurts, the ending, especially when bridges crumble, and one is left with memories of how there was once love spun like a web , unbreakable, and ineffable, i love your way with words, the feminine and evocative touch of your diction especially in lines such as “we often met in a private rendezvous where we embraced in a web, love spun. It served us as a gateway to happiness.” my heart quivered reading that, and you tend to do that effortlessly, only few can do that through poetry, and your love poems do make me feel so deeply! Soul stirring take ! Best wishes for the contest! Sending you light always

Some losses are more painful than others, but when a love that was the center of life itself falls apart, into the deepest abyss of sorrow we fall. The moon no longer glows, and the sky darkens where sunlight should bring warmth. Thank you for seeing with your heart what my words tried to express.
