Rhyme, (Dark poetry in the flavor of Poe)

Note: I dreamed of my poetic idol, Edgar Allen Poe last night.
Thus born from that interesting nightmare is this sad piece.
I woke, composed the first stanza, laid back down and fell asleep
And after waking, eating, continued this poem about half an hour ago.
Satisfied it covers well most of my dream,
(without embellishing or boring too much in length, I hope).

I post without editing even a word of it. As my muse demands I stop altering her generous gifts. A poet must not fight too much with a kindhearted muse. Nor ignore
dreams sent by a famous deceased idol, methinks.

A Voice Speaks From Its Dark And Lonely Tomb (Dedicated To Memory Of Edgar Allen Poe) Soon this form will waste away Underground in dying dark,- I can not see break of day, Tomb here so cold, its depths stark. Sleep, its time dragging along Above, sun brightens sweet hours, Here silence is ruling song- There are no high, gold towers. Now hope seems a shallow cause Where spiders and earthworms crawl,- Darkness reigns its pregnant pause, Black sets eternal nightfall. Rain soaks down but touches not This casket sealed airtight Air is full of decaying rot- You would think a horrid sight. If only you held on more Tho' my rage slashed you deep,- My sharp claws into you tore While heartache wrecked your sleep. From this slumber I await Your end, its destined adieu To see if you deny Fate Avoid paying debts overdue. Soon this form will waste away Underground in dying dark,- I can not see break of day, Tomb here so cold, its depths stark. Sleep, its time dragging along Above, sun brightens sweet hours, Here silence is ruling song- There are no high, gold towers. Robert J. Thank you my friend. I am lucky to have such dreams as fertile fodder for my poetry. The better ones, I wake up in a cold sweat, and then the writing flows out easily and gets good.

Thank you my friend. To me it is sad that the current vogue is so many view dark poetry as something to avoid. Sad poetry is ok, but venture into the dark as did the great and magnificent Master Poe and many refuse to read/understand, IMHO. Life is not all apple pie , roses and midnight serenades. As poets we are to write about real life, not just abstract ideas, romance, thoughts or imagination. Symbolism in poetry these days is not very well appreciated or even understood, IMHO.

I hope you may enjoy this piece. Born from a dark dream but one in which fear was not a participating player. As Poe spoke along with the deceased lady and assured me this was just a lesson on Life and Fate. And a bit of advice on writing poetry that expresses something most fear, but truly shouldn't fear.
