A step backwards in the thought process

Some of us grew up with words that made us think, Words that on the blackboard came alive, To change our lives. The day soon came when pencils were the order of the day, And then that special day when for a fountain pen, we could pay. But those days are gone now I am sad to say, As a photographic memory now is the order of the day, With words no longer holding sway, And a thousand words lost along the way, For each and every photo that comes into play, To push more words off the page each and every day. I wonder how much we will have to pay, If we lose the ability one day, To think of any words to say, As our thoughts only run to photos on display. There is one more thing I need to say, While words still hold some sway, If we continue in this way, And words are no longer on display, How long before our voices too fade away? And will faces without ears seem quite normal one day?

I like the way you present your thoughts through your poetry, David. The tech takeover is crippling the ability to communicate face to face in person. All advances have their pluses and minuses. Have a great week, my friend. Bill

We had our children at the right time as when they started school they had to do things the old fashioned way and when technology really kicked off they were still young enough to understand and make use of it. But they had learned ball park figures so they could know when technology was producing figures that were not accurate. I agree with you. The valuable people in the workforce are still those who have a contact list of people with the knowledge gained from hands on experience over a long period of time that are on speed dial. Thanks for your kind comments Bill.

Thank you Daniel. I enjoyed writing this one. When I was an early childhood teacher I was astounded when a student teacher said they seldom read anything. There is nothing that can replace the written word for giving time to think more clearly and ask those searching questions. early Christmas greetings from me to you and your family David in NZ
