perfectly still pose

his tail upright, cheeks bulging

instinct driven life

In Scotland, we have the Grey Squirrel encroaching on the Red Squirrels habitat. Currently they are being culled as they are bullies. Another cute Haiku Barbara, it's a shame to harm either >> James :)

So they say, Barbara, but I wonder if the squirrels will agree with us. It would not matter here, for I seek no conforming opinion to declare this a great haiku, not only because it carries the essence of nature, but it also poses that metaphor which nature carries for our life in its awesome conclusion. Well done.

Thanks for your blog comment, Barbara. Who knows? Maybe my car will transform into something like "Christine" the movie car and turn west instead of north! I may give you a call from a lonely motel (or rest area) along the way to NJ. Love, Carolyn

We have hundreds of these little guys in the woods behind our house. Their little bulging faced instinct is to drive our poor dog crazy!! LOL!! (If only he could climb a tree!!)

Right on target in your description, dear LNC. The squirrels stand very still, hold their tails high and appear to have cotton stuffed in their cheeks. Nothing wrong with animals following an instinct-driven life. I'm the same way sometimes. Awesome entry for Andrea's contest! Wishing you success. Love, Carolyn

I'm laughing at the squirrel's cheeks bulging, probably filled with nuts to hide away for the winter. To some extent, I think we all lead instinct driven lives. Enjoyed your Haiku, Barbara. Good luck in Andrea's contest. Best to you, Diane

Barbara, you captured a squirrels mannerism perfectly in your haiku. If for Andrea's contest, good luck to you ;) Wilma
