A Splendor Brief
Summer heat sparks a flame
Which blazes through sultry days
Soon it will flicker, as autumn claims
its niche, and sets the leaves ablaze
Autumn's scene is but a splendor brief
From its blaze will come falling leaves
And soon the trees, with branches bare
Stand like sentinels, guarding winds of despair
Then we feel autumn's chill
No doubt borrowed from winter's frosty till
And then winter wears its snowy crown
As snowflakes come gently falling down
Yet spring will soon dethrone this icy king
And rise up blooming, as it sweetly sings
