A Splash of Class
The gorgeous, willowy, young brunette glides
confidently across the floor like a swan over water.
Her bright yellow spike heels are perfect
with her (I suspect) $1,500 Jovani gown.
Her hair is extravagantly coiffed;
her lovely hands, bejeweled.
From my booth, I watch her sashay away
from the counter with her Big Mac and large fries.
I think of how my old high-school friend--
prom queen, Most Beautiful,
Most Likely to Succeed, Most Stylish . . .
knows how to introduce a splash of class
to the most mundane settings.
She smiles at me brilliantly
and pats my hand with her perfectly manicured fingers
before she floats away.
I hope she won’t get any grease or ketchup
on that gorgeous gown! She has only two napkins.
I shake my head sympathetically,
thinking of how her poor feet will throb later tonight
when she arrives home from McDonald’s
and removes those heels!
