A Song of Summertime
I sing a song of lilacs’ scent at dawn;
of butterflies that flit on zephyr’s breeze
and peonies that dance upon my lawn;
of golden fields, hills, rills, and leafy trees
which offer shade on a sweltering day;
of blue jays and of kids whose cares are flung -
while splashing water – as in pools they play;
of moonlight kisses when romance is young;
of chasing waves and strolling hand in hand,
then gazing at a crimson sky as sun
descends and night arrives to cool the land;
of stars that bloom before new day’s begun;
of cauliflower clouds in azure blue.
I sing a song of summertime to you.
