A Season of Smiles - Updated
In January, the kaboom of fireworks,
redefinitions: what if skies were pink, or purple rains should befall us
In February, the appearance of bouquets,
cordate chocolates
In March, the hope of summer
springs like anxious fledglings pushed off their perch
In April, the ascendancy of kites,
compassionate Christ, innocent rose
In May, the juggernaut of time,
mother's five-foot smile
In June, the wonder of rivers, warm dews,
a father's hard hands and ears
In July, the thrum of summer,
fiestas - siestas, climbing for coconuts, cane harvests
In August, the brigades of picnickers, lemonade pitchers
and watermelon days go by
In September, the persistence of memory,
Time mows on, true, some things stay
In October, the signs of leaves
and June plums plumping
In November, the reign of pumpkin and cinnamon,
stew dumplings wrapped in singed banana sleeves
In December, the thrill of his Christmas kiss
blows winter into May, my nose glows carrot-red
