A Poem Unlived

A poem unlived is a poem merely written -- sustenance our words let the body digest with heartfelt regurgitation – a poem unlived is a poem merely written as well as tasty center, a healthy chew needs skin-like peachy, tickly sensation, emotive mastication – best often lost when discarding fussy peelings also feelings a poem unlived is a poem merely written endless editing...crumblings tossed our salads before the main course heavily garnished each poem with a dipping thread link – we warm at the lava lip...deep, glowing convulsing start, long before the page is stirred, shaken – ready for bubbly tip a poem unlived is a poem merely written the sea we sail both tranquil and rage creation an unkempt voyage of possibilities, a nameless work rocks back and forth cradled it longs to escape wild fluctuation and transverse, seeking theme and form – sanguine transfusion, repetitively jabbing for fluid release we call upon the mariner, captain, surgeon of ancient crafts -- muse of many incarnations, sage, fool of countless courts – both wallflower and dancer – homebody and restless prancer, where we have been and yet beam to go – uniquely fermented we uncork for a spotlight blow, for grand revelation introduced with a toast, a click, a sparkly crystal glow staging both our fond darkness and light – an author preparing to take literary flight a poem unlived is a poem merely written -- like stopped midstream without a river flow, banks turned away tepidly applauding…. A stagnant sip before the moved-by lauding…. Though poetically smitten dearly kittened a poem unlived is a poem merely written...

There is a quote of which I do not know the author that goes like this "there is a powerful bit of difference between having something to write and having to write something." I enjoyed reading your thoughts along this line. Thanks for sharing and for dropping by my page. Sara

Poetry reveals our deepest, innermost thoughts. I do believe we live our poetry. An amazing poem, Joe.

Absolutely, we cannot not. And what is real are emotions, feelings -- how we make all that we encounter breathe around us and within us. Thank you, Joe.

We we haven't lived out our words by now my friend we never will. Great poetry comes from past experience, and perception. Past lives are gifts of remembrances for some, thanks for sharing your light always, Vie

Hi Vie; thank you. If not having lived them out consciously, willing, the boomerang Law of Attraction will see to it. No one escapes their words. Like spiderwebs and flypaper. Eternal entanglement.

I have occasionally mentioned that poetry should somehow deal with emotion. Writing a few words without feeling is useless.

Thank you, Victor; of course feeling is different for each of us -- meaning and value are different for each of us. Whatever, the words, I like to read, according to my mind, when reading, lived for the author and now in me. Living words. Some of the greatest prose poetry are bible verses. God must have such fondness as well, from my point of view. Myself, admittedly no expert on anything. Maybe the value of this poem, if any, is in the conversation that has followed.

Thank you Vijay; of course this was more written to inspire young people, just starting out, perhaps interested in hearing how this old timer approaches poetry (a bit presumptuous I know), myself with deep reverence, but there is no right and wrong -- I was not a literature major (maybe obvious:)), just read poetry and now pen my own the way I like it (like McDonald's) -- often thinking sometimes from the heart, with inconsistencies and form errors, is more enjoyable than slick and polished (an alert soul can sense) -- not that it can't be both. Requires a lot of dedication and work, as you know, massively involved pieces do not just roll off the press without first much careful thought going into the editing. Lived here, does not mean factually -- just deeply felt and respected, like eyes, ears and privates:) Blessings my friend.

Reading this I understand how seriously you see poetry writing. Poetry is "a production distilled uncorking for a spotlight blow, for grand revelation introduced with a toast, a click, a sparkly crystal glow". Love the reverence with which you see a poet's mission.

I Valsa; not just poetry, my casual conversations are quite poetic -- I can't help it. (Often the jest of friends and family) -- but even my comments, anything I write has my name on it -- like the clothes one wears out in public, haircut, etc -- I try to do all to the best of my ability or failing mood, bravely, honestly presented to the world. Our words, like deeds are extensions of who we are and the reality we are trying to represent and improve, how most of us I hopefully also believe. Blessings.

Living In Mesa these two years this year I could write about the heat, much hotter than last year as you know. Why I haven't writen of it I don't know.

I know, Arizona can be brutal in summer. I worked at the airport, loading trucks 25 years ago. One day it hit 123 -- talk about heat. I had to hold my breath going into a long trailer, to unload a box, because the air in the trailer was too hot to breath.

There is a great deal more to the poems written here at poetry soup. Most of the time they are poems that the poet has lived through. I enjoyed your poem, Joe and your willingness to share your thoughts through your poetry, my friend. Write On! Bill

Some of the best poetry I have ever read (excluding my own works:)) are Soup Poems. Even better than many of the classics. Fiction should be lived as well -- we are multidimensional. Thank you, Bill.

Poems are the words that our souls write. We're almost compelled to write them. A well-crafted poem. I appreciate your formatting and repeating the line 'a poem unlived is a poem merely written' Powerful indeed. Am faving it. Your words spoke to me. Have a delightful evening...and thanks for sharing your voice.

Thank you so much, Sara. From one dedicated writer to another, Blessings! I honestly don't have enough time and energy to follow all the fine poets here -- so many really great ones. And prolific! -- even the few I can follow is a challenge to keep up.

This is excellent, my favourite poem by you.. I just love how you delivered your message here through the words and how you have formatted it... I agree with your words also, and I feel many others will also.. They say poems are a piece of our souls... so its sad when others criticise.. great write my friend.
