Notes About The Poem

The US political scene presents an ethical dilemma. BTW, facts often cited might not take the cause of a given situation into account. That makes understanding our choice not as simple as this dictator wannabe would like followers to believe:

a pied piper on steroids

Threats of blood baths easily roil
Cult members whose sentiments boil
Devotees tribal
Shall get D.T.’s bible
Soiled with drizzles of snake oil

Is snake oil always in fashion? It seems MSM has anointed us in it. Very clever Duke! Hope all is well with you. :)

Linda, yes it seems like there's always something that would allow us to dismiss some complex issues with platitudes in order to feel better. The media has magnified its effect and has involvement with it. News organizations have their own issues, and we need to be very careful about what to believe. Things are often not as they seem when just delved into superficially.

Silent One, thanks for the complement. I think I will post another political limerick I have been contemplating tomorrow. What we're dealing with seems worse and worse every day unfortunately.

Don't worry. CNN is totally focused on his fall. I am in a floundering nation with no one to look to for integrity of leadership.

I shall refrain from saying where this is all going. But it's nowhere good.

Thanks Andrea. It's easy to become cynical--I must appear that way. There are choices to be made that will determine our future. It's not clear to me how this will all go. Really hard to know.

SZK, thanks for reading. I've only just gotten back to my computer after being a bit under the weather and away all at the same time. Will check out your poem of course! The beauty of this place is that we have a little luxury of time.

Thanks Yolanda, you can probably tell I don't like DT. He is totally corrupt and would abuse all of us for his own benefit. I'll be voting for Biden even though I wish we had someone more inspirational. However, his heart is in the right place (as long as it keeps ticking).

Great limericks, Duke. There is such a cult culture fortifying many political leaders in the world today. Snake oil sells much these days. Br well. Brian

Brian, you are absolutely right about the times we are in. It's hard to fathom the ease with which many get sucked into a cult frame of mind. On the other hand, some of us see that almost all the candidates have policies we don't agree with, but we realize we're not going to get everything we want. The system is far from perfect, but better than a cult-led alternative.

Brilliant limerick dear Duke with feelings well and very cleverly expressed alongside a brilliant picture that you have found too. Perfect! ‘ Soiled with drizzles of snake oil’ - so profound. Dear Sotto comments are so accurate. Brilliant abbreviations with DT. Well done. This will resonate with many and how they feel. :):)

Christina, we're just watching the politics play out and wondering how this will end. It's not looking so good right now, but I am trying to remain hopeful that reason and compassion will trump D.T.

Hey, Duke your limerick skillfully explores the moral intricacies that emerge from the political landscape particularly emphasizing the cunning strategies employed by a leader with aspirations of dictatorial control. It expertly utilizes clever wordplay and alliteration to effectively convey its message with a strong impact. The meticulously selected expressions, like "blood baths," "sentiments boil," "Devotees tribal," and "drizzles of snake oil," create powerful visualizations and elicit intense emotional reactions. In addition, the inclusion of the abbreviation "D.T." adds a satirical element to the poem.

Let’s hope we can preserve sanity for another four years and lay the groundwork for the future. Hard to know what will happen.

Thanks Ilene. Can you tell I can't stand the orange madman? It's incredible that we have gotten to this point in the history of our fragile democracy. The extreme behavior makes me somewhat sick!!

Snake oil is what is being sold, Duke. Very eloquently you delivered this potent message. Some will never heed the warning. Democracy at risk!

Yes Vijay, we are in the grip of something very dangerous. We're hoping he gets trounced at the polls. However, why we on the other side could not find a better alternative is beyond understanding. Biden is a kind and ethical person, but not very good at selling himself or his record.

Drizzles of snake oil, what a powerful line to depict what youv wanted to convey here; the sly and untruthful nature of politics today; youv captured that very well. One thing iv realized through my experience here in my country is that, political leaders use individuals as they please to gain what they want; and so many fall for it, theres only very few sincere politicians, and that picture is brilliant very inspiring. Fits also your limerick that flows with excellent rhymes. Sending you light

Dear Duke, What a powerful commentary on the manipulation of fear and rhetoric in society. I love your sharp wit and incisive words which cut through the noise, exposing the dangers of blind allegiance and deceitful leadership. Brilliantly crafted. - Blessings, Daniel
