A Pair of Shoes Van Gogh
Inspired by the painting 'a pair of shoes' by Van Gogh (link in comments). Van Gogh used old shoes for still life as they were cheaper than flowers and with some similarity to portraiture.
Standing stock still in time
Every crease evidence of the miles travelled
All unruliness now evaporated, out of sight
To arrive at this point of stillness
The gait detectable, the hardship felt
Slightest hint of the lustre once held
Realisation time moves in but one direction
This isn't stillness, but transcendence of time
My brush strokes link me to a future where my gait doesn't wear away my sole in any sense of the word
There, I'll travel a path untroubled, unhindered
Transcendence, a nice thought, though fleeting
But for when my mind is busy or my body occupied
I am here, weighted, my gait working against me
