A New Year's Eve Message---From Hell
Five years ago, on New Year's Eve,
I resolved to love forever,
Weeks later, the mailman came,
My draft notice arrived.
Four years ago, on New Year's Eve,
I wished to be discharged,
A month later, my "prayer" was answered
I was shipped to Nicaragua.
Two years ago, on New Year's Eve,
Fighting the flu, down in the trenches,
I wanted Mom to make me some chocolate chip cookies,
Instead, I received a different care package,
A funny green egg.
Last year, on New year's Eve,
Admiring my one and only leg,
Serenity and peace is what I yearned,
Obtaining this was simple,
But, I didn't want it eternally.
This year, on New Year's Eve,
There's nothing much I can do,
Oh, yes, this must be made clear,
No more New Year's resolutions for me.
