A Nation Lost

A Nation Lost When did it happen that we became a nation of haters? Not just the few hate groups, but millions of us. What happened that we have turned neighbor against neighbor? Caused people to be afraid to pray outside of their chosen sanctuary? Made small children fear their parents will be taken away? When did it become okay to mock disabilities, to prey on people’s insecurities? We had made progress, though much still needed to be done. With just one single election, we took a giant leap into the past, dredging up old divisions and creating new ones. Threatened is the security of health care, carving away hard-earned benefits of the indigent and elderly, cutting food stamps for those who are most needy, decimating the environment for greed, depriving our children and grandchildren of their rightful inheritance, destroying Nature’s good earth. But forget religion of any kind. We now worship money. Democracy? Forget that, too. Our oligarchy is healthy and growing healthier every day. But don’t ever give up! Do not slip quietly into the land of darkness and hate. Speak up. Fight for truth. It is up to all of us to shine light into the blackness and work to restore goodness and democracy to our nation.

Nice to see the government balance out, as the fathers of the country intended. May we see people come together in peace, not turning away from friendships but to them. Let revival reign, not with religion, but with charity, for that is how God intended it. Blessings and Congrats on POTD!

Excellent write Barbara but I believe we are about 300 years to late. The nation was lost when the Native American people were forced to surrender their homeland to violence…

With that I cannot disagree. Squandered wisdom which will lead only to our own demise, along with the devastation of every single living system on this little planet we call home.

it started when we stopped asking "what do you think" and started letting them tell us what to think without asking "why do you think that"....I had all the answers once but they kept giving me the wrong test...

Scene since the dawn of time, BP. This generation didn't invent the problems, they inherited Fallen Nature. POTD worthy piece making that important effort to inject sanity into insane minds. Mightier than the sword...? =;o/

Congratulations on your POTD, Barbara! Virtual hug, my heart goes out to you. I heartily agree with your sentiments. All the hatred and diatribe which you are alluding to has always been here, all our elected President did is further stir up the hornet’s nest. If only Americans payed more attention to their History. The people have voted, and that is where we stand. The good news is that it’s just 4 years and in two we have a midterm election which will determine how popular the President’s policies are. There is truth in this. Yes, we do need to unite. In fact, we did unite in November 2024. The popular vote has won.

You ask a question. I will tell you what I see, for what it's worth: We became a nation of haters starting with the two Obama presidencies, which divided the country between 'minorities' and the 'white majority,' and subdivided the minorities into blacks vs. browns, Asians, etc. Since then, the Trump presidency solidified the hatred from the left, while the Biden Presidency has solidified the hatred on both the left and the right. ~ gw

Absolutely agree. Obama promised to change America fundamentally, and that’s just what he did. Liberals think he’s so great ‘cos he’s black and good looking (so they say - I don’t see it myself) but instead of unity he spread hate and division. The Democrat Party is the most racist organisation in America today largely due to his iron grip on the party. Thank God his 3rd term is about to end. Trump is so right when he said America’s greatest threat is the enemy within.

Dear Barbara, This fits and would resonate with so many, from different parts of the world! Well delivered and said, to be healthy and remain healthy now is also a privilege and so many are stuck in darkness and hate. I pray for a world of peace and kindness and honesty. Pleasure reading this powerful write, congratulations on getting featured as potd. Sending you light always

Your poignant poem asks all the right questions and the answers may be as scary as the reality of stolen land birthed on the backs of enslaved people painted using native blood and red skins. Can a foundation created with brute force and evil ever grow white clean saintly houses? Your poem is a fav!

Everything you say is true. I do think our country had come a long way, although it also had a long way to go. But right now, I am devastated, not only with the government but with the people in this country who are so selfish and cannot see beyond their immediate goals. Who would vote for a person like Trump? We have taken a grand leap backward into the past.

Reading this gives me hope, for your country and for our world. A heartfelt rendering, thank you Barbara.

Maureen you really see hope for a country that finds more creative ways to oppress and hurt its citizens of color. I don’t think we are getting better but we are evolving in our devious ways…
