A Lifetime of Memories

We decided to build a life together. Both working toward a common goal. Planning on it lasting forever, dedicating ourselves, heart and soul. Life moves at such a fast pace, constantly changing all the while. We run to keep up in life's race, Focusing on tomorrow, mile after mile. When the time comes to slow down, and you look to see where you are. Did you win the race, win the crown? Or find that you went too far? Time to finally pause and reflect, was it what you hoped it would be? Is it the outcome you had come to expect? Or one you hadn't wanted to see? The answer came, but there was no explanation. None that may have eased the way. There was only practiced condemnation. So savage, for I was the prey. A lifetime of memories, what to do with them now? The joy, the sharing, the love, erased by pain. What happened, I don't know why or how? The years of my life, all a loss....not a memory will remain.

Thank you, John. These thoughts have been on my mind recently. It sometimes feels as if I have no past. Hoping for new memories, but been through so many phases of creating a new life that the happy memory phase has been on hold. But, I will get there...
