A Homeless Man Named Robbie

Away to Vermont on a Dr's appointment. Coming back and riding the Ferry to New York my wife Judy and I decided to stop off at Panera Bread for lunch thru the Drive thru. I notice a man counting his few dollars by the drive thru. His long hair and beard caught my attention. His face looked sunburned, and he looked withered and dry. Sadly I noticed that his tan pants had a large brown streak down his rear side. Looking at this broke my heart. As I went thru the drive thru I ordered an extra sandwich, a lemonade and chips. My wife looked at me not knowing my thoughts and said ,"Michael your hungry today." As I came around after picking the food, I looked for that man. He had disappeared. I drove around on a mission to find him. At last, I saw him, he had gone into the restaurant. I parked the car and told my wife what my plans were. She was surprised and was very supportive. I walked through the door and introduced myself to him. I said I have something for you. He looked up smiling and said, "God bless you." I said, "God bless you." I asked him where he was from and he said, " Willow Alaska." He shared with me he was looking for his parents in Upstate NY. He said he suffered from mental illness and that he was a minister. While talking to this stranger I felt an incredible love resonating through him, it is hard to explain. I said good bye my friend and felt guilty because I wanted to do more for him. His name was Robbie. I shared the story with my wife and my brother Gus and they said that God puts angels in this world and Robbie might be an angel you cared for. There is not a better feeling than helping someone in need. I made a new friend today, a homeless man named Robbie. I encourage everyone to reach out to those less fortunate and make a difference in their lives. Even saying hello, or asking them how they are doing. So many people are silently suffering, and any act of kindness will help them cope better. God bless those of you that do... Michael Tor 6/12 2023

A gesture of kindness goes a long way, and the Bible tells us that "some have entertained angels without knowing"...

It's amazing the feeling of goodness we get when we do things like this. You have a heart of gold, Michael. While working in NYC I often gave food to the homeless and needy...I once gave my sneakers to a old lady walking barefoot. Good thing I had another pair in the office (lol). Hope all is well...blessings... Charlie

Gershon it is difficult to see people suffering and abandoned. They are human beings, they had parents, brothers, sisters, maybe even children and for one reason or another they are on the street. Looking for a bench to sleep on, sometimes getting frostbitten in the winter, dealing with the cold, hungry, lonely, searching continuesly for shelter, dealing with get off my property, or police, or rude people. Some are so far gone they want to escape their misery they turn to drugs or alcohol. I just seems like no one cares. Mothers living out of their cars with kids. There is something definitely wrong with this system my friend. How do we fix it? Thank you my friend for your support. God bless you Gershon...

What a heartfelt story Michael, your good deed will be received with Gods love and rewarded graciously, and I would like you to tell us when the time comes of your realization (reward). That would be cool and I am honored to know you. I give a least a couple bucks out a day, especially to the younger ones roaming, there are many here where I am. :)

Vijay I don't get why with all the money and Programs America has there are people thrown into the streets and are not taken care of. What does that say about our Government, about humanity, about our leaders. We are in a sorry state my friend. It would be nice if each one of us could find a cause, a purpose to help someone out in the world. So many are struggling and they are in our back yards. We the people have to take on our brothers and sisters burdens because our elected officials fail to do so. Thank you my friend for the favorite and your special comment...

Thank you Victor I'm just doing with my Lord expects for me to do. If each of us could reach out to a poor soul out there it would make a difference in someone's life. Even to say hello , how are you, or bringing a meal. Anything that is positive so many people are hurting in this world, they hide behind a secret silence. Thank you my friend for stopping by...

With great admiration, I must commend your work, Michael. Your poem is a true gem, encompassing a multitude of emotions that are all too familiar to us. The narrative of Robbie's misery is exquisitely captured, and your compassion in continuing to search for him and provide sustenance is truly touching. Blessings dear friend.

The credit belongs to my savior he loved us first. His commandments tells us to Love one another. I just try to do what he commands us to do. Just think Lasaad if each one of us can lift someone's spirits up, lend a helping hand, provide a meal for a hungry soul. This world would be a better place. So many people are distraught, they keep everything to themselves they are all around you struggling with one issue or another. Just saying hello will help someone cope. If people could get beyond themselves and their selfishness judging the less fortunate, pointing the finger and saying I'm better than you attitude, and have a more loving spirit to reach out to others less fortunate. Make a difference in someones life you never know someday you might be that person in need. Thanks my friend for stopping by always very much appreciated... God bless you...
