A high school junior, I had no girl friend - alone, as nerdy teens are wont to be. My friends all said a car could turn the tide; if I had my own wheels, there'd be no end of girls who'd need a ride, and might like me beside. I worked to buy a car, then met this doll - a pretty lass with no wheels! So I tried to drive her home and test my strategy. Turns out, she wanted just one thing, that's all - a ride! Thank you, Andrea. I realize all these years later that it was pretty shallow of me to think that a car would make me more likable. Should have just worked on my personality instead, haha!

Congratulations on your win. Life is filled with memories. Guess the guys needed their cars. Many girls just wanted/needed a ride. The funny part, some girls had the car and not the guy. Enjoy your wonderful win...................

Thank you Paula. If I'd put the time into building personal skills that I had put into working for a car, maybe I would have had better success. Ah, life with its twists and turns! Thank you for the delightful comment, and have a great Thanksgiving week ~ John

Yes, having met my true love later makes this just a poem of nostalgia. I have been very very blessed. I deeply appreciate all your super kind words, Jenn, it's more than I deserve. But I do love having you as a friend with your uplifting and encouraging nature.

Well, I imagine you gave her quite a ride, John! lol. Sounds like you and I were cut from the same mould back in high school. I skipped the wheels in high school part though... Ride easy, Tiger. :) gw

Thanks, Gershon. Except you were more athletic than I in high school. I was programming computers and competing on the Math Team; not exactly girl attraction material, to say the least. Now maybe if I had been driving a Porsche...

hahaha. So is THIS one fictional? Love the cute picture you put with it too. I actually recall a really sweet sports car (ferrari maybe) and a weird guy who took me to school in it, Sadly kind of like the girl in this poem, I just liked being in that sports car. you did really well with this new form.

Actually, this is more autobiographical than I would care to admit, haha! Remember the girl (Andrea) in the pizza parlor date where I forgot to bring money? That was her.
