A Grain of Desert Sand
A grain of sand lies on the desert dune
Listens to the arid music of the harsh wind
Rolls down the slope dancing to its tune
Face shined, doesn’t mind the grueling grind.
It rests there still in the shadow of solitude
Sees the sun rise, scorch the desolate desert
Its heart of cool crystal feels the heat intrude
Waits for the dance of the night breeze to start.
The silver shine of the desiccated desert moon
Envelops it with the transient gleam of ecstasy,
It forgets that the mystique night will end soon
The flare of the desert sun it will again see.
With the force of fury the summer storm blows
The grain of sand flies liberated toward eternity
And to the fervent fold of a distant oasis it goes
Where it sinks in the calm water of still serenity.
The bliss of tranquility enters its heart’s quiet core
The blaze of the desert sun can’t burn it any more.
