A Fool's Game

"A fool and his money are soon parted." --Thomas Tusser
Money is the name of a fool’s game Those who have it have more worry, Often woes accompany riches and fame. I don’t have that well-known name, And I have no concern for getting glory Money is the name of a fool’s game. Denying any interest in money is lame I know it’s an essential part of any story -- Often woes accompany riches and fame. Although riches and fame aren’t the same To get money, some folks are in a hurry Money is the name of a fool’s game. But I won’t be a naïve moth to the flame Escaping the trap of an enticing flurry, Often woes accompany riches and fame. Some other things I must find to blame Should I fall into a sticky financial slurry, Money is the name of a fool’s game Often woes accompany riches and fame.

A FAV for my list, Milt. Your Villanelles are always excellent. This one is packed with wisdom and truth. Reminds me of the scripture (Paraphrased) It is harder for a rich man to get into heaven than for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle. Heaven being happiness, blissful, content etc ... Thanks for sharing your thoughts through your poetry my friend. Bill

Thank you so much, Bill. I wanted to credit my grandma with the quote since she said it so often. I'm glad my poem brought to mind an important scripture for you.

Lay up your riches in Heaven. I agree with you Milton. They say the very rich always want more and struggle to keep what they have. I am happy with what I have. It is modest but I get to sleep at night. It is said that The Rothchild family of bankers own and have amassed over 300 Trillion dollars not Billions but Trillions. If that isn't the epitome of Greed and selfishness I truly don't know what is. Thank you for sharing Milton...

...and nothin's plenty for me! Money may not buy happiness, but it can get you out of a lot of misery. Enjoyed Milton

That is so true, Robert. And, if you know how to handle it, it can buy you the few trinkets you always wanted.

Reminds me of the folk opera "Porgy and Bess" - Gershwin's "I've got plenty o' nutthin". Great villanelle! Linda
