A Familiar Path
I have walked this familiar path before…..
Its landmarks stand etched forever in memory
Heavy clouds hang low from skies painted steel gray
And rain constantly threatens like the tears that fill these eyes
Yet, I live with much hope that a new tomorrow will I see
As time is always marching, onward to truth and light
Oh, I have walked this familiar road before….
Where pretty wild flowers and weeds in abundance bloom
Their faces now droop with sadness, as the sunlight has faded away
This heart wounded, barely beating will carry its burden alone
And some day these footprints I leave in ashes, will be washed away
Just as yesterday, forever erased, never more to return
