"Change yourself and you have done your part in changing the world"—Paramahansa Yogananda

Don't Fight It Write It Poetry Contest

Who are we really? It’s my nature to—to what and how do we know it’s our nature, an inherent part of us? “The Scorpion and the Frog” an animal fable, teaches hurting others even when it is not in their own interests because the scorpion stings and dooms them both. I’m not so sure that it's our human nature. In our habitual routines, agendas, modus operandi, some of us are diehards and others well, can be lazy. We can have lazy minds as well. If we are images of ourselves, the picture that we have of ourselves will be far removed from reality. Every time somebody praises or criticizes us, we try to see if it fits with our own sense of self-worth. We tend to ignore anything that does not fit with our mental frame of mind. I read somewhere that the slug must have been a big sinner (human) to have come back as a slug. Hmm, logic says that the slug only knows what he knows, that he’s a slug and is absolutely fine being a slug. Yikes an eye opener. Seems our goal is to satisfy this little image that we have of ourselves. We’ve all heard the cliché “What comes around goes around” I know that when it does come around, I feel it and it sobers. A sobering you get when you have recognized how you affected someone, and it has arrived in whatever form it takes. Chilling to think it will be someone other than who you wronged, jaw-dropping and startling. It can be a good or bad feeling, right? It hasn’t dawned on me in a long time, which means I haven’t done anything to others who don’t already know what to expect. In other words, if you already know that what you put out into the universe will come back to you, and not feel it when it’s shoved down your throat, then you just might be numb to it. Does this mean you have reached your destiny to your true self? Nah, it’s a long journey, and it’s more complicated than that. It’s about undoing what is not us and becoming who we really are. Karma is going to get you but what is it exactly? In Sanskrit, it literally means “action” cause and effect. To be right with karma you must be open to the world, and not just to your own convenient space, or what will you understand? This is why many choose not to believe in it, making life simple by putting up barriers for themselves, thwarting knowledge and growth. It makes me sad, because they are not using full potential missing the more subtle messages, signs for us to course-correct and move forward toward our higher purpose. So, what is instant karma? –God only knows!

With great admiration, I commend your outstanding writing, Anaya. Your poem is a profound reflection of your heart and mind. Your words are a treasure trove of wisdom, and your ideas on causality are truly remarkable. Your depiction of Karma is a testament to your eloquence and wisdom, and I fully concur with your assertion that it is God who governs this universal principle. Congrats on your win.

It's your choice if you want to stay or go to heaven Linda. Bodhisattvas are those who come back to earth to help people. [A person who is able to reach nirvana but delays doing so out of compassion in order to save suffering beings].

A philosophical discourse Anaya, but the truth is, it’s never one size fits all, even Karma can seem selective at times, perhaps like I said in my recent post you kindly commented on, I can accept a lie as the truth once it bears fruit, this is a huge topic you tackle here, excellently penned, cheers David

Hi Jay, glad for your kind visit. I agree with you!

Anaya you have certainly put thought into describing cause and effect. I believe in how you eloquently described Karma. I also believe that God is responsible for Karma. I hope those that are not kind, or are selfish, realize in time through their Karma they get back, to change and realize their harmful actions, and change for the better. There is hope for humanity. Enjoyed your perspective on this Anaya loved how you broke it down. A favorite for me. Thanks for sharing...

Michael so happy to see you! I could never quite put my finger on it (karma) and it an excellent opportunity to talk about in this don't fight it write it contest. Your so kind and it's good to hear others opinion on this subject, I too believe in the Source. Your encouragement is most appreciated. Wow, thank you for the favorite! xhugs

Your "break down" of Karma makes so much sense.. I always think of Karma as the Universe having my back, so I can avoid drama, face problems head on, and face fear til its gone to expand all possibilites ahead. That seems to be what you are saying. Please correct me if I am wrong dear friend. I enjoyed what you had to say.

This a break down, yes. My research(wellnes centers) finds the same words used over again and Karma is summed up quickly, and to really understand how complicated karma is, you are either born into the Hindu religion (Eastern) or have studied [Paramahansa Yogananda] who introduced millions to these teachings. I used to go to the Realization Center in Pacific Palisades, by the ocean! Most know the (Western) ideas of Karma. John Lennon's "Instant Karma"'s Gonna Get You! a good example. Thank you, for reading my scribs! I'm glad you enjoyed.

Yes, I really meant no satirical criticism, it’s more a circuitous discourse. Thank you, Victor you have made my day. I enjoy your poems, comments and visits. Have a nice day!
