Once Upon An Ocean Wide

It was to be his last, he thought. The day began in heat, like all the others for the past six weeks; he knew the scene full well around his little boat. That, too was empty now but for a single oar. He lacked the strength to take it up again, just to roil the trackless surface of his world. And yet once more, he gazed around the stillness, "Did I see it? An object floating, yards away only an hour ago." ...just an old and seaworn board. and on it lay a fragrant flower. ~
