Once Upon An Ocean Wide
It was to be his last, he thought.
The day began in heat, like all the others
for the past six weeks; he knew the scene
full well around his little boat.
That, too was empty now
but for a single oar. He lacked
the strength to take it up again,
just to roil the trackless surface
of his world.
And yet once more, he gazed around
the stillness, "Did I see it?
An object floating, yards away
only an hour ago."
...just an old and seaworn board.
and on it lay a fragrant flower.
