French country

We see in the country, in Portsall,
things that you don’t see in the city,
A pastry chef who smiles kindly,
A farmer who parks his tractor on the side,

We see polite people like Belgians,
People listening to the bees work,
Trees are seen learning to count,
Churches that ring the morning hours,

We see beautiful things in the country,
Things that you don’t see in the city,
People saying hello to you at the bakery,
People watching the snails think,

You see people looking at you like birds,
Writers wearing pink hats,
Who drank tequila with their chicken breast,
Houses where people will be nice,

We see in the country, on the side of Portsall
Things that you don’t see in the city,
The city often I fear, makes people evil,
We see large houses painted pink or yellow
Which make you think of Sicily or Tuscany.

I hope you can enjoy your country more often than not, Yann. I must say it sounds lovely! Mmm, baguettes come to mind:):)

Ahhh!!! That sounded like a very nice country visit. I think I would like to watch the snails and see those yellow houses. Thanks for sharing. Sara K

I enjoyed this charming portrait of country life, Yann. The slower pace of living that the country offers is certainly very nice. Great writing! :)

My sis and I were talking about something similar today. She visited Indianapolis where the place was clean and people were nice. Certainly varies within the U.S. though nice people are always around, some areas exude a lovely mood!

thanks kim, i don't know Indianapolis, except the name, this is quite interesting mentioning, there are very nice people in US of course, more than i Europe, i guess, where people are selfish and "stubborn" best wishes

Dear Yann, I loved reading your charming verses. What a whimsical portrait of rural French life. Yes, we should cherish life's small wonders, which are often overlooked in urban hustle. Well Inked! Autumn Blessings, My Dear Friend, Daniel

this is lovely, yann, and i really like the examples you've chosen ("people watching the snails think"), but i live in a big city and we do have our own "beautiful things," believe it or not...

You break my heart because I can't travel now. I've been to Catania, Messina, and Florence. Great food, great sights. I can cry.

Seems life there is beautiful with people who are friendly and hospitable. Country life is sweeter and many prefer life in the country side to city life. Beautifully penned poem, dear Yaan.
