Plastic smiles try to camouflage fear, but false facades can’t conceal your pain. Yet conveniently, they hide a tear, quelling questions too hard to explain. A congenial front, smiles mask the truth, like a clown wearing a painted face. And dispelling fantasies of youth, simulated smiles are commonplace. Yet, it's hard to keep that mask in place while loneliness haunts your heart and soul. And when losing love's impassioned race, you make happiness your default goal. The veil of lies covering your hurt dissolves in the tears rejection brings. And yet, that pain you couldn't avert cut a broken puppet's tangled strings. (Quatrain) 10/20/2017

I enjoyed your rhyme and rhythm, Emile, as well as your deftly interwoven message. Indeed, many of us hide "a broken puppet's tangled strings" while unsuccessfully trying to avert the "truth."

All so descriptive! I think we all hide the pain inside which hits us in the gut! We show our best self, the one we want to be, on the outside. We must deal and untangle the strings, quite often. Nice one, Emile!
