Before I used to be afraid of being alone. Now, I'm afraid in 2020 ...

If your behavior is a reflection of what others say you are, you’ll behave as they like because you don’t want to be alone. When you search within, you’ll find your authentic self. By being who you are, you no longer have a fear of being alone.

Such a grounding reminder. I love how this gently shifts from people-pleasing to self-realization. That final line is especially powerful—freedom begins when we no longer fear being alone. Beautifully said.

Thank you for your mindful comments, Rowena. I was always a people person, never alone until I met Sara. She was a loner, thoughtful and secure in being herself and knowing she could make it alone. I've learned that I don't have to have someone with me every step of the way. I still love people, I'm just not dependent on them to whole. Have a great week! Hugs, Bill

A truth that, my dear Bill, each of us must adhere to if we are to lead peaceful lives. Word for word, your words resonated with me. Furthermore, I find it admirable that you are so open and honest about your love for your beautiful wife.

We are different but were meant to be together. We seem to complete each other. There're still problems from time to time, we just know that they pass and our Love for each other never changes. Thanks for the compliment, you are one of our dearest friends here on Poetry Soup. Bill

Thank you for the personal comment, Deb. I know it will be hard when a spouse passes, I pray often that God will allow Sara and I to pass at the same time. It seems selfish to me because I'm 7 years older, but Sara is the one that first brought the topic up and prays for the same thing. You are a blessing in our lives, Deb. Love and hugs from both of us. Bill & Sara

Dear Bill, being alone is the best thing there is, in my opinion. The best way to find one self. That is how I found the poet in me. Your poem is beautifully written! The joy of being alone is what I believe in especially as an introvert. My best to you, Anne

On the outside everyone you see me as an extrovert, but as I became more aware of my authentic self; I see myself as naturally an introvert. Blessings my sweet friend. Hugs Bill
