I grew my farm roots beneath your starry-eyed loam
In soils of silence where dreams slip by, lost and unknown
But you were the willowing wind pulling you far away
Took to the stars as if you never meant to stay.

I’m buried deep in the earth’s embrace
But you’ve spread your wings into the endless space
We were worlds apart from the very first start
One foot in the soil, one foot breaking my heart.

I watched you chase the meteor storm in your eyes
Like a red comet lost in the blackened velvet skies
I was the snow-capped mountain forever standing still
And you were the restless west wind chasing every thrill.

Earth and sky are poles apart, yet there is an invincible connection between the two."You were my earth, I was your sky I held you close, but you wanted to fly I buried my soul, you touched the light" It speaks of a relationship that could never culminate into a union, but too sweet to let it go or fade. The metaphor of earth and sky highlights the idea that while physical boundaries may exist, the mental affinity can transcend them, connecting seemingly disparate factors. Amazing poem dear Daniel. It is kind of fun to let the imagination ponder this sort of thing...I think many of us have these thoughts. Attraction is a funny phenomenon and it leaves a huge mark on a young developing mind. A problem occurs when these thoughts persist and seem to arise when unexpected for no apparent reason. I have learned to view this phenomenon as a message to focus on the present and to give my wife extra attention. It works wonders. Smiles! I started writing this poem probably about 2 months ago and as it unfolded it turned into a song. I always knew I wanted to use the metaphor of Earth and Sky showing separation but never truly capable of becoming one. I had a childhood sweetheart whom we dated for about 5 years and everyone thought we were going to get married and seemed so perfect for each other. She had many aspirations and dreams and I finally realized it was not with me. She wanted to leave our hometown, head off to college and experience the world. After we broke up I decided after about two years that I needed to also leave our hometown and go to college. I have not seen or heard from her for about 50 years. I think she has a catering business down in Georgia. I very much like the singer songwriters of the 60s and 70s and both John and Bob fit right in there. I feel blessed that you felt it was a mix of two of the great songwriters and performers. My plan is to find some people who will harmonize it with me, also have my oldest daughter do some violin/fiddle interludes, get a mandolin and a percussionist to finish filling it all out. However, she had he sight set on college and I was going to be a blue collar worker who never leave hometown. It never worked out and several years later I left hometown, went to college found my wife. I have my 50th class reunion this Saturdays and I started thinking about those high school days.
