A lesson in perception, on what the soup is, and writing

Blog Posted:7/2/2012 8:24:00 AM
many people have preconcieved ideas about what the soup is. small simple minds that cant grasp the overall picture. the soup is whatever any idivual wants it to be. there is a mirad of reasons people will not check their spelling or grammer and really to each individual its up to them to care or not. some of us are just plain lazy and realize we are not writing for book publication nor are we writing in some fifth grade grammer class. when it comes to any form of expression, as long as its creator calls it art that is all that matters. when it comes to the "forms" of poetry, that is such a minuscule detail that wether we had that listed or not doesnt matter. it would still read the same and still have the same worth of poetic merit. as for all you simpletons that enjoy trying to impress your perception on to others simply for the sake of feeding your ego and making your self feel smarter, your not, your weak. on the other hand the soup is what ever your percption makes it so never mind go wild tell us all how we are inferior and our work is garbage

Real poetry comes from the heart. I'd rather have a misspelled written in crayon poem from a child than an autographed gem from Robert Frost. As for me, don't expect to find any big look them up in a dictionary words. I write what I feel and if the grammar isn't correct, too bad. Am I smarter than a fifth grader? I guess it depends on who the fifth grader is. Thanks Nathan. No form of art is garbage. It is special to someone.

Well said my friend. I personally will pray for them. And for me Nathan I didn't know hardly anything about poetry when I first join soup. Now I attempt to write in various forms using the gift the Creator gave me. May we all find peace and blessed.

Diversity seems to be the hallmark of the soup...I applaud such....some write to expel demons...at times.,I have written such....others may want to experiment with forms.,what I use this for is a building bloc to expand upon my poetry flow without trying....few poets grow without practice...BUT above all else....I write for my own satisfaction....whether its speaking of beauty in nature or people...protesting various injustices in society....or bringing to light human conditions I want to share...like my last post...in a lighthearted form with deep connotations....good blog, Nathan! I am a 'big picture person' too Nathan. I can overlook a few simple mistakes...It's only troubling to me when it's so poorly written it's distracting. Otherwise, I say 'rite' on :)

I get all your points. Many of these I've stated here. Repeatedly. I'm called idealistic and was once told to surround myself with care bears (LOL). I believe STRONGLY in the right to creative expression, for one and for all. My husband has dyslexia and has written me love letters that I cherish. Spelling? WHO THE @#$% cares? Heart???? YES, LOTS OF HEART! Poetry is something different for each reader, and the courage it takes for some to post their inner thoughts deserves respect and nurturing. We all learn ANYTHING by stumbling along, like a toddler learns to walk. It takes time. And every view of artistry has merit!!! What one loves another abhors. What one thinks is a masterpiece, another sees as a splotch of paint on a black canvas. Some are very old school in what they consider a poem to be, its requirments and limits. Others have kicked down the gates, run wild and damn the torpedos! Both traditional poetry and full out free form are beautiful and meant to be appreciated for their unique charms. I like to learn, read and share the tidbits I've picked up with my poetry device blog series. People can read or not, comment or not, use or not, snub or not. It's all up to them. And I love to read Debbie's blogs and other blogs on improving my writing. Some things I will mull on, consider and others I think, "Nice. But not for me. Not my style." An open mind is available at no cost... for anyone who wants one. Nathan, I know your opinion of me is low. All the same, I like your blog and the courage you have expressing yourself so strongly. A salute from Cyndi

You are right and in the same vein we have our own ways to comment on this art as long as it conforms to the rules. If I notice more than a couple spelling mistakes I usually will not comment noticing the correlation to bad writing. That's our prerogative. Of course I've come across exceptions to this rule. I also realize we are all on different levels. I remember when I first started writing I enjoyed it but as I look back at some of my pieces I have enough humbleness to know they are awful. I think many will agree that we love poetry enough to treat serious to a point.
