A Commentary on Commenting

Blog Posted:5/30/2012 5:38:00 AM

We have such a wonderful opportunity here, all the poets of
the world have a chance to come and gather here. We have such an awesome
community and we are only limited by our imagination. We are the artist of the
world, imagination is supposed to be our bread and butter. When I look at the
current system of commenting I do find it lacking. This is the best that we can
do. Read a poem, in some cases I wonder if people get that far, and leave a
comment. Yes some of the comments can be very exciting, entertaining and even
meaningful. We as a community of poets are capable of so much more. Poetry is
at its best when it is shared and discussed so I encourage all of you to not
only read what your peers are commenting but to join in and comment comments to
start conversations and discussions on what you are reading. I also urge the
administration to add it that you get an email when someone comments a comment
to help facilitate this. It’s hard to keep track of all the poems and to keep
checking for replies on the comments you made. (On a side note I would also
like to see the reply button added to the blogs since it will make them more
orderly and less of a jumble to sort out.) This site should be about more than
trying to get points, trying to get comments, and trying to stroke your ego. It
should be about poetry, expressing it, sharing it, perfecting it, enjoying it,
and promoting it. The opportunity is here for all of you to make some something
really special here. You have fantastic poets and a cool administration that
listens to you, all you have to do is your own part.

Hi everyone, a notification for comments on comments would be awesome. When I first joined the soup, I was answering all my poem comments. Then I realized most poems get read once and chances are, my comments weren't being seen. It seems everyone crosses poems to havecconversations so I don't see the point of the comment on comment. To PD, I never thought that you and others who comment on their blogs look stupid. On the contrary, you look friendly and inviting. I felt welcomed when I came here 4 months ago (I can't believe it's been 4 months). That's why I kept coming back. I love giving and receiving all the comments and feedback. Love and Blessings to all! Rhonda

ha ha ha Tex love your comments, and I am just leaving a comment on your comments to Nathan's comment's about commenting to comments, commenting to comments is not always needed I tend to leave as many comments as time allows me, particularly to 'newbies' I agree an email would be good to know someone has left a comment to your blog, ok am getting dizzy with all of this commenting...

What you should do, is offer the poets a chance to be honest, on the true reasons, i spoke of earlier...

Nathan, my love, my sweet, I think you are right about the mumble that goes on in each blog.. The soup should offer a comment box, for comments on blogs as well. I hate going into a blog, and three only makes all the comments or four poets, even I hesitate to replay back. ((However, in some blogs it is fun)) I use to replay to every incoming comment, until I noticed it looked pathetic on my own blogs, as well. Therefore, I choose to limit what I want to respond with in my blog. I am not that crazy to say Hi to each one individual any more. I do not need to make my blog look stupider. Anyways, some poets look very desperate housewives, when they are talking back and forth on their on blog, or replying back. I try very hard not to. SO YES! A click button on the blog comment would look neat. I finally agree with you... I hate seeing a hot blog, when it is not. It is nothing but, mumble jumble, are you for Christianity or not. Have you gone noble behind my back......love your PD

I agree a notification on a comment of a comment would be a good idea. And to comment on the winners list if that could be made less long winded I would appreciate that, time is at a premium sometimes and I have only time to acknowledge and not give a very flowing account of how I feel about someones work, hard work at that and I'm British, we are a people of few words, sometimes, well some of us are, not everyone but some are.

When we write a poem we are putting our hearts and souls out there. When we read others poems we are bringing them into our lives... Points are fun but most leave a comment just to let others know they've been heard and have touched each other. Some times it's just for the simple love of reading anothers work.

the most annoying thing is when many poets seem only interested in leaving a poem but never responding to anyone else. I think the ones who are benefiting are already doing a lot of the work at it and are really enjoying themselves, nathan. We can go wherever our imagination takes us!!!

I agree, but like you said we are only limited by our imaginations. I would like to see something like that happen. we are all like a family or a group of friends as we share the same passion for poetry, and we should socialise more .

Well said.. I agree it takes nothing to leave a heartfelt comment on a piece of work you've enjoyed..and just letting the poet that took time out to share it with you know. Some kind of notice on comment comments would be a good idea, coz I tend to lose track of where ive been talking lol..
