Saluting some famous poets.........

Omar Khayyam

Born in Nishapur Iran, he was a mathematician,Scientist,Astronomer,Philosopher and Poet.

he is believed to have composed between 500 to 600 Rubaiyat (Quatrains). They have been translated into a number of languages, in English by Edward J. Fitzgerald in 1859.


One of his most famous one is

The palace where Jamshid held his cup
The doe and the fox now rest and sup
Bahram who hunted game non-stop
Was hunted by death when his time was up.

 

Another one reflecting life is-

The caravan of life shall always pass
Beware that is fresh as sweet young grass
Let’s not worry about what tomorrow will amass
Fill my cup again, this night will pass, alas.

Tahera, I really love this kind of quatrain poetry from Iran! and how cool that these poems were translated into actual rhyming quatrains. It is wonderful how they could do that! these were both very enjoyable poems. I could read a whole book of them!!
