Över varuhusets fasad fanns nu i jättebokstäver, upplyst i olikfärgade lampor, orden MERRY CHRISTMAS. Men illustrationen i neonslingor av jultomten med vitt skägg och röd luva befann sig i en säregen situation. Som ett resultat av dekorationschefens missupfattning hade jultomten fått en Jesusroll. Jultomten i Tokyo var uppspikad på ett kors.
